Calrec Unveils IP Gateway and Modular I/O Controller at IBC

At IBC 2018, broadcast equipment manufacturer Calrec Audio has announced two new IP products that aim to make the transition to IP workflows smoother for its customers. The H2-IP Gateway and AoIP Modular I/O controller card are designed to provide a seamless interface between Hydra2 networks and AoIP networks.

The H2-IP Gateway provides an interface between a Hydra2 network and an AoIP network, allowing audio labels to be passed in both directions along with control data. This enables Hydra2 users to control gain of Calrec AoIP mic inputs, while AoIP users can control gain of Hydra2 mic inputs.

The gateway is available in two configurations: 256 or 512 channels of audio in each direction. Multiple gateways can be used to increase capacity or connect with multiple networks, and for full hardware redundancy, additional units can be deployed as backups.

Modular I/O Controller Card

The AoIP Modular I/O controller card is a new product that can operate in either Hydra2 or AoIP mode. The mode is selected via a simple switch on the card, making it dual-purpose and allowing for use on either network.

The card provides two redundant pairs of 1G SFPs to allow 512 audio channels to pass without over-using bandwidth in AoIP mode. It also fits into existing modular I/O frames, allowing units to be upgraded in the field.
