Cobham Tactical Communications and Surveillance has launched not one but two wireless transmitters designed specifically for broadcast applications.

New SOLO7-OBTx Camera-Back Transmitter

The first, called SOLO7-OBTx, is a camera-back transmitter that features 1080p60 and 4:2:2 video encoding with integrated camera control. It includes swappable RF modules operating between 340MHz and 8.6GHz.

This transmitter boasts ultra-low power consumption, allowing for extended performance in the field, as well as a latency of just 1s to an ultra-low 10ms, depending on mode.

Dual-Input HD-SDI COFDM Transmitter SOLO8 SDR

The second transmitter, SOLO8 SDR, is a dual-input HD-SDI COFDM transmitter with integral video analytics, recording, and IP streaming capabilities. It features 128GB of internal video storage, USB and Ethernet I/O interfaces, an integrated ISM band telemetry modem, and an integral battery-backed real-time clock for time and date stamping.

This transmitter's underlying platform is designed around software-defined radio (SDR) technology, which Cobham sees as the cornerstone of its next-generation wireless broadcast products.

Cobham's Vision

In an interview, JP Delport, Head of Broadcast Sales at Cobham, highlighted the flexibility and power of these new transmitters.
