Digital Azul strengthens remote production strategy with RTS Intercom Systems NOMAD investment
Digital Azul, the independent production powerhouse specialising in complex live events and distributed broadcast workflows, has further strengthened its remote production capabilities with the addition of the RTS Intercom Systems NOMAD IP wireless intercom system. The agreement was signed with RTS through the Portuguese reseller Pantalha at ISE 2026.

Digital Azul delivers live production across television, film, advertising, sport, and events, frequently linking multiple locations and mobile teams back to its Lisbon-based MCR. These productions often take place in environments where connectivity is challenging yet require the same level of operational control and reliability as traditional OB-based workflows.“We serve television, film, advertising and events by designing production solutions that remain editorially and technically coherent, even when everything is moving,” said João Tocha, founder of Digital Azul. “That means connecting remote sites, roaming cameras, and mobile crews back to a central control room, without compromising communications. Reliable intercom is fundamental to that model.”

For Digital Azul, RTS NOMAD functions as a wireless IP intercom layer within its distributed production architecture, extending full intercom access from mobile and remote locations back to the central MCR. The system supports up to 16 intercom channels integrated directly into the existing RTS infrastructure, allowing production teams to operate with the same communication structure whether working from fixed venues, temporary sites, or roaming setups.

The system is deployed across demanding outdoor and urban environments where crews, cameras, and presenters are constantly in motion. Flexible antenna configurations and weather-resistant hardware allow Digital Azul to maintain reliable communications across wide areas and complex locations, while mixing fixed panels at remote positions with wireless belt packs for mobile teams to match each production’s operational needs.

NOMAD’s SMPTE ST 2022-7 compliant IP stream allows intercom to be transported alongside video and data over public networks, including bonded IP backpack workflows. This enables communications, media, and control signals to move together with broadcast-grade resilience, supporting Digital Azul’s communication-first approach to remote and multi-location live production.

“This investment supports our ongoing move towards more agile, communication-first remote production,” Tocha added. “Our clients increasingly expect dynamic coverage across multiple locations, with presenters, artists, and cameras constantly in motion. A recent music launch involved live coverage from two venues across Lisbon, continuous streaming as the artist travelled through the city, and seamless coordination between mobile crews and the control room. These are exactly the scenarios where robust intercom makes the difference.”

Digital Azul is already an RTS Intercom Systems rental partner across Europe, supplying intercom solutions to international productions. The NOMAD system was contracted at ISE in February 2026, with delivery scheduled for March. Its first deployment by Digital Azul Live will take place on coverage of the Longines Global Champions Tour, one of the most demanding international live sports production environments.
