New Broadcast Studio for Hood College Students
Hood College in Maryland has upgraded its Communication Arts Video Production Studio and Control Room with a range of Blackmagic Design products, including the ATEM Television Studio Pro HD. The new studio is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in live production and broadcasting.
The studio features an ATEM Television Studio Pro HD for live switching and camera control, as well as three Blackmagic Studio Cameras that are fed into the switcher for a multi-shot ability. The cameras were chosen for their remote control feature from the switcher, multiple lens options, SDI and Fiber connections, talkback connections, large 10-inch monitor, tally lights, and compatibility with third-party LANC controllers.
The ATEM Television Studio Pro HD is used to record video to two HyperDeck Studio Mini broadcast decks. The HyperDeck Studio Mini integrates with the ATEM control software for recording and playback features, making it easy to capture live recordings without disrupting the production process.
Streaming and Recording Capabilities
The studio also features a Blackmagic Web Presenter, which allows students to take multiple input signal types and feed them to a computer as video and audio input sources with ease. The Web Presenter is used in conjunction with Open Broadcaster software and YouTube to stream live content from the broadcast studio.
According to Jeff Welsh, Hood College's Instructional Technologist, the Blackmagic Design products were chosen for their high-quality performance at an affordable price point. He praised the integration between the cameras and ATEM products, as well as the ease of configuration and use.
