The 90th Academy Awards broadcast was meticulously planned to ensure every moment captured the best of the film industry. Among those behind-the-scenes contributors, Pronology played a crucial role in supporting the event with its advanced media asset management solutions.
Streamline Content Approval and Collaboration
To manage thousands of pre-produced audio and video elements for approval by ABC Broadcast Standards and Practices (BS&P), Pronology's CenterPoint platform was employed. This tool allowed the BS&P team to review content in real-time, directly from their offices across town.
In a seamless cross-town collaborative production environment, HDSDI streams were encoded using Pronology's StreamFile Core application and streamed via NDI (NewTek's video production over IP standard) to the SIM Group's post-production facility. This allowed for rehearsal viewing and captured the streams in both ProRes and DNx file types.
According to Rob Paine, Supervising Producer of the Oscars, 'The ability to access information securely and remotely is a significant advantage. Additionally, we can send approval notifications through the system that prompts the production team to move forward.' This streamlined process was essential for staff members located across the country.
Flexible Production Tools
Pronology's mRes standalone multi-resolution encoder also made an appearance at this year's event, proving valuable during musical performances. The secure web-streamable proxy enabled performers to watch their rehearsals and post-event performances in real-time.
'For the past several years, Pronology has filled an important role here at the Oscars,' said Tim Kubit, Engineer-in-Charge of the Academy Awards. 'Pronology once again proved instrumental in allowing the Academy to seamlessly review and approve pre-recorded content from various locations.'
