Sound Devices 664 Proves Indispensable for Indie Film
When veteran sound mixer Irin Strauss was tasked with capturing audio for the critically acclaimed indie film Tangerine, he turned to the Sound Devices 664 Production Mixer. The film, shot entirely on iPhone5s, required a highly compact and mobile audio setup that could keep pace with the fast-moving production schedule.
For Tangerine, Strauss worked with two cameramen who were equipped with iPhones, allowing for quick and nimble shooting in various locations. As the sound guy and boom operator, Strauss had to carry all of his equipment, including the mixer and recorder. The 664 proved invaluable in this situation, as it allowed him to record high-quality audio without having to lug around multiple devices.
Metadata Proves Crucial for Fast-Paced Production
In addition to its compact size, the 664's metadata capabilities were crucial for Strauss's workflow. With a fast-paced production schedule and no time to create sound reports, Strauss relied heavily on the 664's metadata features to keep track of his audio recordings.
